"My project is a paid externship that takes place at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. This externship will be a 10-week long experience as a nurse “in training.” I will be paired with registered nurses that will act as my clinical coaches for 8 hours, 5 days a week. These coaches will teach me all about what they do in each specified unit. I will be able to float to other units in the hospital in order to experience different nursing fields. I will be exposed to over 60 different fields of nursing while completing this externship. My clinical coaches will be able to teach me in nursing skills in an inpatient (hospital) setting. My teaching will include actual hands-on clinical nursing work. This externship will teach me the ins and outs of nursing and the health-care environment. I will be working alongside other nurses, physicians, surgeons, technicians, and therapists for this program. My clinical coach will be able to be my guide while I complete my nursing tasks."

Project Overview
I understood what was expected of me as a nurse in a hospital setting by doing our nursing duties without being told by my nurse what to do. I found which fields of nursing I’m most interested in for me to pursue a future in that specific type of nursing. This outcome was completed because I was able to float to different areas of the hospital in order to be exposed to other nursing specialties other than neurology. I am more prepared as I continue my education to receive my RN license as evidenced by my increased confidence when in a patient room and the evaluation by my nurse manager and clinical coaches.
